Professional teeth whitening is a non-invasive cosmetic dental treatment used to improve the color of a patient’s natural teeth.

There are many options available to whiten teeth at home, including rinses, toothpaste, and whitening strips. While these methods do lighten the appearance of teeth, they generally cannot offer results equal to professional teeth whitening.

The Teeth Whitening Process

At Webster Dental Care, teeth whitening requires two appointments. During the first appointment, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth to create custom whitening trays. The custom trays provide a personalized fit to limit pain and gum irritation that can be caused by home whitening kits.

During the second appointment, your dentist will make any necessary adjustments to your custom trays to ensure you have a perfect fit. Then, either Dr. Krobath or Dr. Thakker will review how to properly use the whitening solutions and trays. Depending on the level of whitening you desire, the trays may be worn twice daily or overnight for several weeks. After bleaching is complete, it may be necessary to replace any visible fillings or crowns to match the new shade of your teeth.

Teeth whitening is not permanent and may require continued treatment every few years. With regular brushing and dental cleaning, however, patients can maintain a beautiful, white smile for many years.
