Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease affects the bones and gums in the mouth. Periodontal disease is caused by tartar buildup on the teeth and gums. When plaque and tartar are left on the teeth, the bacteria begins to erode the gums and supporting bones.

It is estimated that as many as four out of five people have periodontal disease, and many patients are unaware of the severity during the early stages. At this point, periodontal disease is primarily painless. Many people become aware after the gums become swollen and begin to bleed.

Symptoms of periodontal disease:

  • Bleeding gums
  • Pus around the teeth and gums
  • Loose teeth
  • Receding gums
  • New spacing between teeth
  • Red and puffy gums
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Tenderness or Discomfort

Periodontal disease is the primary reason for tooth loss, and dentistry experts believe that there may be a link between periodontal disease and other medical conditions such as stroke and diabetes.

Periodontal disease can be prevented with good oral hygiene, diet, and regular professional teeth cleaning. If you suspect that you have symptoms of periodontal disease, contact Webster Dental Care immediately. Our dentists will evaluate your teeth and gums, and provide periodontal treatment that suits your case.
